Although emails typically reside in MailStore Gateway mailboxes only for a short period of time, it is highly recommended to protect the content of these mailboxes as well as the configuration files by implementing a decent backup plan.
If not the whole computer is backed up anyway, the following path should at least be included in the backup set of you backup solution:
%PROGRAMDATA%\MailStore\Gateway
As no files are kept open while the MailStore Gateway service is running, stopping the service prior to creating the backup is not necessary.
