In order to ensure data consistency, the MailStore Server service must be stopped before the backup and started again afterwards. Carbonite Server Backup can execute programs or scripts particularly for that purpose before and after backup.

In order to ensure data consistency, the MailStore Server VSS Writer must be activated in the [[MailStore_Server_Service_Configuration|MailStore Server Service Configuration tool]].

Therefore download the file [[Media:PrePostBackupScripts.zip|PrePostBackupScripts.zip]] and extract the two  Windows batch scripts contained therein to a location that is accessible by Carbonite Server Backup such as <tt>C:\MailArchive</tt>.

It is highly recommended to test both scripts before continuing with the next step.

After the pre- and post-backup scripts have been successfully tested, a new dedicated backup set with optimized settings for MailStore Server can be created. A dedicated backup set also helps to reduce the time at which the MailStore Server service is unavailable to a minimum. To create a new backup set, please proceed as follows.
